History

Once upon a time, in the magical kingdom known as England, there lived a young man. His name was Linus Bancroft, and he was a quiet man. A studious man. Many might refer to him as a "geek" or a "nerd." Bumbling, but in a charming way. He was a librarian. Not the most charming of occupations, certainly not even close to being a prince charming. But he loved his life, he loved being surrounded by musty old books and helping people find what they were looking for. He made a decent living. Certainly not a decadent one, but a passable one. He had his books, he had his health, what more did he need?

Jessica Howard, on the other hand, lived a decadent life. She was an up-and-coming fashion designer from the distant land of New York City. She was in London for the fashion shows, her first time as a designer on her own, and she got lost in the city. Of course, as it always goes in stories such as this, it started to rain and Jessica didn't have an umbrella. To avoid being soaked to the bones, she ducked into the nearest open doorway, right into the library that Linus worked at. It was love at first sight. Sparks flew between the two, as Linus offered his jacket to Jessica, offered her a seat close to the fire in his office, so as to warm up and dry out a little, while waiting for the rain to stop.

Their love was consummated that very afternoon there in the office of the library. Afterwards, when the rain had let up, Linus gave Jessica directions to where she was headed, and they parted ways. Jessica returned to her fashion shows, where her designs were a hit, and Linus returned to his books. A year later, Jessica returned to London and sought out the library and its quiet, charming librarian. This time, she brought with her a three-month old child, a little girl, the result of their tryst a year earlier. Jessica and Linus sat and talked for many hours in the office of the library, about their daughter and also themselves. Their love was true and still present, but an impossible love. Linus could never leave his library and books, he would be like a fish out of water in a place like New York City. Jessica could not relocate to London, either, her offices were set in New York, after all. They also decided that their daughter must have a stable life, raised by a loving parent who would always be around, not jet-setting around the world.

And so, when Jessica and Linus parted again, the child remained with Linus. Dual-citizenship was gained for the child, born in the United States but to be raised in the United Kingdom. Whenever Jessica could manage it, she would visit London to see Linus and their child. The girl was also, once she was old enough, allowed to travel to New York City to visit her mother for a week or so. As she grew up, the young girl was sent clothing from some of the greatest fashion designers around the world, most of which were more adult fashions that had been scaled down to fit a child. But while she was clothed like a mini-socialite, like a rich fashionista, she also grew up surrounded by the books that her father so loved.

Georgiana Bancroft lived, despite the circumstances, a quite normal and sheltered life. She often spent her days, after getting out of primary school, in her father's library, working her way through the sizeable collections of classics. It came as something of a shock to both father and daughter when an owl -- an owl -- delivered a letter to Georgiana in the summer that she was eleven. The letter informed them that she was a witch, and invited her to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Linus called up Jessica, and she was able to take a few weeks to fly to London to figure things out. A representative from the school came to give the family more information, and in the end it was decided that it would be for the best that Georgiana attend the boarding school. Linus and Jessica took her shopping for supplies together, but Jessica had to return to her job before her daughter would be going off to school, so it was Linus alone who escorted Georgiana to King's Cross station and bade her good-bye.

Once at school, Georgiana was sorted into the House of Ravenclaw, which pleased her. Whilst shopping for school supplies, she had purchased a copy of Hogwarts: A History and had read the whole thing cover-to-cover in only a matter of days. She knew all about the school and the Houses, and she thought that Ravenclaw would be a perfect fit for her. It was in the first quidditch match of the year that Georgiana fell in love with the sport. It looked like so much fun, everyone up there on broomsticks, flying around. She wanted to play, but wasn't wholly athletic. First she had to learn how to fly, of course. Then she had to get good at flying. Because many of her classmates had grown up with knowing that they were witches and wizards, they had an advantage over her when it came to things like flying -- it wasn't something one could learn in a book, after all. But by her fourth year, she managed to try out for the team and get a reserve chaser position, which she has held since. She is hoping to be a starting chaser eventually, but even just being on reserve in case one of the starting chasers is hurt is enough for her.

Beyond Quidditch, school has passed rather unremarkably for Georgiana. She's loved finding out all sorts of things about the world that she is now a part of, and of course she excelled in her classes. Her parents have expressed how proud they are of their daughter, and Jessica frequently sends Georgiana new clothing from her own fashion line, tailored to fit her measurements. Now in her sixth year, Georgiana is drawing closer to the end of her time at Hogwarts, which saddens her while it also fills her with anticipation of encountering more of the wizarding world after finishing school.
