History

Gerald Williams met Cecilia Benton through mutual friends in the spring of 1951. They hit it off immediately and were married in summer of 1952. Their first child, son Richard, was born in the fall of 1953, followed in the spring of 1955 by son Jonathan, then daughter Adelaide was born in November of 1957. For a while, the small family was happy and felt complete, but then a second daughter, Nicole, joined the family in 1965: an accident, but a happy one. Adelaide was old enough at this point, nearly eight years old, that she wasn't particularly jealous of the new baby, but she was certainly a lot closer to her older brothers than her baby sister, so she spent more time playing with them than helping her mother out with the baby, though Cecilia tried to rope Adelaide into it as much as possible, saying that the young girl needed to learn how to take care of babies (and cook, and sew, and knit) so that she could be a proper housewife and mother.

Adelaide (or Addie, as she preferred to be called) fought her mother's attempts at "feminizing" her, preferring the rough-and-tumble activities that her brothers enjoyed. She loved getting dirty and tearing holes in the knees of her jeans, and even though it always hurt, she kind of loved breaking her bones. Occasionally, weird things would happen around Addie, but they usually went unnoticed, or explained off as just weird things. That is, until the summer before Addie turned twelve. That summer, a man came to the Williams house and explained to Gerald and Cecilia that Addie was a witch, and that she was invited to attend a special school with other children like her: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. After discussing things amongst themselves, Gerald and Cecilia decided to send Addie to Hogwarts, because they were worried about what might happen if she didn't learn how to control her magic and use it properly. Cecilia also hoped that the "special school" would help Addie calm down and learn how to be a proper young British woman.

At Hogwarts, Addie was sorted into Gryffindor after only a few moments' thought from the Sorting Hat. She did well in Gryffindor, and she became fascinated with the sport of quidditch, particularly the blugers whizzing around and attacking the players. In her third year, Addie joined the house team as a beater, and she loved every minute of practices and matches. Quidditch allowed her to get out all sorts of pent-up aggression, and it gave her a reason to at least try to avoid getting detentions: she didn't want to miss practices or games.

Academically speaking, Addie did very well in her classes at Hogwarts. At first, it was because she was fascinated by all things magical; later, it was her competitive streak that came out in her: she had to do well and be the best in her classes, so she devoted as much time as she could, outside of quidditch practices, to studying. As a result, she spent more time in the library than most people even expected Ravenclaws to, but it paid off: she earned Os in all five of her NEWTs in 1976.

Although she had the potential to apply for the Auror programme, she instead aimed a little bit "lower": the Magical Law Enforcement Squad as a hitwitch. She felt that hitwizards were more "out there on the streets, doing things" than Aurors were, and that was exactly what she wanted to do. She made it into training for the squad, and after her six months of training, she was a hitwitch.

In the summer of 1977, not long after Addie became a hitwitch, she was injured in the line of duty, and the Healer who patched her up was a handsome young man named Marcus Sloper. A few days later, Addie went back to the hospital to ask him out to dinner. They began dating, and they got engaged on New Year's Eve, then married on 27 April, 1978, less than a year after they'd first met. Although sometimes they feel as though they might have rushed things a bit with their relationship, Addie and Marcus are still happily married, though Cecilia wants Addie to quit her job and settle down with Marcus and start a family. Addie does want to have children with Marcus someday, but with the war going on in the wizarding world, Addie doesn't want to bring a child into such an uncertain time, especially since doesn't want to be worrying about being pregnant while battling evil wizards: although she doesn't want a baby right now, she also doesn't want a hex to hit her just wrong and cause a miscarriage.

Because of her blood status (muggleborn), Addie feels as though she has a greater stake in the war than many of her fellow hitwizards, because she knows that if Lord Voldemort wins, her life would be directly in danger. However, she doesn't believe in vigilante justice, so she firmly backs the Ministry of Magic, believing that the hitwizards and the Aurors are the most capable people for fighting the Death Eaters.
