History

Lucas Vector and Samantha Smith were school sweethearts. They married right out of school in July of 1946, and Samantha stayed by Lucas' side as he went through his Healer training. Five years later, after several attempts to have children, they finally had their first child, a daughter they named Angelina. Once they started having children, though, they didn't stop for eight years, ending up with seven daughters who were all just over a year apart from each other. By the time their seventh daughter was born, they were running short on name ideas (especially with their idea of giving all of their daughters names that ended with -a), so they went with Septima, based on the Latin for seventh.

Being the baby of the family, Septima rarely got anything new. Clothes, toys, books, they all cycled their way through her six older sisters before getting down to her. As a result, Septima became obsessed with fashion, saving up her allowance to buy NEW clothes that were actually currently in fashion, as opposed to the clothes that hadn't been in fashion for eight years. She spent the rest of her money on books, because she was also absolutely obsessed with reading and learning new things through books, and none of those types of books were the ones that she got from her sisters as they "grew out of" their own books. Septima also fought to be noticed, because in a house full of sisters, it was easy to get lost. At least the house got progressively more empty as her sisters went off to school. There was even one whole, glorious year when Septima was the only Vector girl home: eldest sister Angelina was in her seventh year, and Diana (the next-youngest before Septima) was starting her first year. Septima relished the time home alone with her parents (especially whenever her dad was actually home from work), and she absolutely blossomed under her mum's attentions, and she loved not having to compete with six sisters to earn it. Of course, at the same time, she was absolutely filled with jealousy that her six sisters were at Hogwarts and she had to wait two more whole years to join them.

Finally, finally, her day came: her Hogwarts letter. Being born in October, she was nearly twelve before she got to go off to Hogwarts in September 1970. Only four of her sisters were still in Hogwarts, and none of them in Ravenclaw (where Septima was sorted; she never had any doubt that she would be sorted into that house), so Septima was free to make Ravenclaw tower her own domain. Her ambitions and desire for knowledge would take her far, she knew. She was absolutely pleased to be made the Ravenclaw prefect for her year in fifth year, and from there she set her eyes on the Head Girl prize, and also at excelling in her exams. She passed her OWLs with flying colours, and opted to drop down to a selection of five classes that she had quite enjoyed. If it had been feasible, she might have gone for taking all of her classes through to NEWT level, but she had enough brains to know how insane that would be.

She was absolutely distraught to not be selected as Head Girl her seventh year. Nothing against Bellatrix Black, but she just knows that the Headmaster made a mistake in not choosing her. Septima knows that she just has to prove herself in her final year at Hogwarts: do her absolute best, earn Os in all of her exams, and generally just be the best student to ever walk Hogwarts' halls. And maybe snag herself a handsome and equally-ambitious husband at the same time.

Personality

Likes: Math, lollipops (actually, just candy in general, but especially lollipops), bright colours, muggle science and technology, muggle disco music, dancing, shoes, clothes
Dislikes: SNAKES, dull and boring colours, vomit (and, really, any bodily fluids, gross!)
Amortentia Smells: New books, sugar, a certain bloke's aftershave
Boggart: A huge, gigantic, SNAKE
Mirror of Erised: Herself, as a brilliant and famous mathematician with an absolutely gorgeous husband who is also horribly horribly successful.

Knowledge. Septima craves knowledge above all else. Well, knowledge with a bit of fame and fortune mixed in. She can't help it: she's the youngest of seven girls, you would crave attention, too, if that was you! Also, with six older sisters, she feels as though she has to prove herself and stand out from the crowd. She has ambition that skyrockets through the roof: she might be the youngest, but she needs to be the best, the most amazing. Which is a lofty goal, with her three eldest sisters being a Healer, an Auror, and a reserve on a Quidditch team. But Septima will be famous or she'll die trying, and she'll use her amazing brain and knowledge to do so. She likes ambition in others, too. Actually, ambition is a huge turn-on for her. She simply cannot understand how a person could be content to just coast through life with no lofty goals to aim for, and men with ambition like her are just absolutely perfect in her eyes.

Septima is both incredibly girly and simultaneously incredibly geeky. And she is unashamed of any of it. She is proud of her aptitude for maths, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with liking cute clothes. She is absolutely fascinated by muggle science, especially their attempts to use technology to do the same sorts of things that wizards do. She really wants to try travelling on one of their aeroplanes, and she would absolutely love to drive an automobile. Telephones are just fascinating inventions, as are televisions. She sometimes wishes that Hogwarts had some kind of exchange programme for Muggle Studies students, where they get to spend some time with a muggle family. Full immersion! She has a tendency to ask weird and tactless questions to muggleborn friends, but she just wants to know absolutely everything about what it's like to grow up in the muggle world, and to go back there after being at Hogwarts.

She also has a tendency to be both sarcastic and passive-aggressive. Well, not so much tendency as way of life. She's really good at the silent treatment, too. These were developed somewhat as a coping mechanism for being the youngest and, therefore, the One Who Is Most Picked-On. Sure, she'll be nice and cheerful and friendly (and even has a tendency to hand out lollipops to cheer people up!), but just beware for the slipped in sarcastic comment, or for her to suddenly get all passive-aggressive on you. And if you piss her off, she might start pretending that you don't exist.
