History

In 1934, 21-year-old Mario Orsini travelled from his home in Milan, Italy to London, England to study abroad. Or so he told his family, he just wanted to get out of mainland Europe. In London, he met a pretty young Brit named Henrietta Jones. Mario and Henrietta fell in love and got married. Four years later, their only child was born on 23 June, 1938, a son they named Theodore. Both parents worked to support their tiny family, and once the war started, they simply couldn't afford to feed another mouth, so they were content with just the one child. Ted grew up not really knowing how special he was. Sure, odd things sometimes happened around him, but with a war going on around him until he was seven, odd things just weren't high on the list of things to worry about.

The odd things were all explained when a representative from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy showed up at the Orsini house shortly after Theodore turned eleven in 1949. He was a wizard, the man explained, and he was invited to attend this school that would teach him how to be a wizard. Ted, of course, found this to be the Most Awesome Thing In The History Of Ever. Once at Hogwarts, he was sorted into Hufflepuff. His favourite part of being a wizard came within his first few weeks at school: flying. From the first moment he held a broomstick in his hand, he absolutely loved it. He gravitated toward Quidditch immediately, and earned a spot as Beater on the Hufflepuff Quidditch Team. For a while, he entertained the notion of playing Quidditch professionally after school, but ultimately decided not to: he had discovered that he was actually a really good listener and liked helping people with their problems. Plus, he really wanted to know what made people tick.

With the assistance of the Ministry, he got the necessary muggle credentials after graduation in 1956 to attend the university, where he majored in Psychology. By 1963, he was working in a small clinic in London as an adolescent psychiatrist. That was the year that he married his childhood sweetheart, Annie Eastman. She had grown up next door to Ted in London, and she knew that he was a wizard and accepted it. Both only children, they planned to have a large family together, lots of children. Unfortunately, they only had one. Born 16 April, 1969, daughter Milena (Mia for short) was the apple of her parents' eyes, the light of their lives. Of course, they still wanted to give Mia siblings. When she was nearly two, it looked as though Mia would finally get a younger sibling: on New Year's Day 1971, Annie shared with Ted that she thought she might be pregnant. She had an appointment with the doctor on the sixth to confirm it. Annie was on her way home from the doctor (where she was confirmed to be two months pregnant, due in August) when she was killed in a car accident. Ted was left to raise Mia alone.

Annie's parents were dead (her father had died in the war, and her mother had succumbed to pneumonia shortly after Mia was born), but Ted's parents were still living nearby, and they were happy to help their son with their granddaughter. They watched Mia during the day while Ted worked, and often invited them both to stay for supper. Over time, Henrietta taught Ted how to cook for himself and Mia. Whenever Ted wasn't at work, he was spending time with Mia, determined to make up for her lack of two parents by being both at once. Eventually, he even started living again, doing more than just working and spending time with his daughter. He went out for drinks with his mates, went to see Quidditch matches, though he still has not yet returned to the world of dating.

In October of 1976, he was approached by his old Transfiguration professor turned Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. The school needed someone like him. The students needed someone to talk to, someone who could help them. Ted could never turn down one of his favourite professors, and he gladly accepted the job. He would be the new Hogwarts Psychiatrist, to help heal the students' minds, give them someone to talk to who wasn't a professor, who had the training to help them with their problems.

Personality

Likes: Quidditch, playing dress-up with his daughter, psychology, books, physical activity, weightlifting, candy (wizarding and muggle both), the air guitar, rock music
Dislikes: Bigots, people who think that children and teenagers don't have their own slew of problems, attacks on muggles or muggleborns, disco
Amortentia Smells: Baked goods, play doh, grass, and sunshine
Boggart: Something happening to Mia
Mirror of Erised: Mia growing up well and in a safe world.

Ted is an intimidating guy. Tall (6'4"), broad, and very well-muscled, he looks like he'd enjoy using your head as a stress ball, or break you over his knee without breaking a sweat. But in reality, he's a big, squishy marshmallow. A teddy bear. He knows how to use his size to his advantage, and he won't hesitate to do so, but he's a gentle giant far more often. He won't even harm a fly without provocation, and he's like a little kitten with children, especially his daughter.

Mia is his life, especially after his wife's death. He would do anything to protect her and keep her safe and happy. She was too little when Annie died to remember her mother, so Ted does what he can to tell his daughter all about who her mother was, and tries to make up for the fact that Annie's not there. He doesn't make any big decisions without considering how they might affect his daughter, and he tries to make only the best decisions for his family. When he can't be with Mia, she often stays with her grandparents, but he tries to be home with her as much as he possibly can. His favourite pasttime when he's home? Princess Tea Parties with Mia. And yes, he dresses up in the sparkly dress and tiara. With combat boots (hey, you try finding princess shoes that fit his boats of feet!). Outside of spending time with Mia, he enjoys kicking back with a good book, or rocking out to music with his air guitar (he's an air guitar master, you know). And there's always weight-lifting. Gotta stay in shape, after all. If he lets himself go, who'll scare away Mia's closet monsters?
