History

Born in Ft. Worth, Texas, to Garrett & Caroline Winston, followed a few years later by brother Thomas. Beth had a relatively quiet and normal childhood. Even knowing about mutants, the family wrote off Beth's particularly good reflexes as still normal and nothing different about it. Though that was, perhaps, simply the family collectively trying to keep Beth safe from any sort of anti-mutant backlash. She took karate and gymnastics classes, so her good reflexes could be brushed off as simply a honed skill.

After she graduated from high school in 2007, she enlisted in the Marines. Everyone in her batallion started calling her Tex and it stuck, so she started going by that primarily. While on a tour of duty in the Middle East in July 2011, she was shot in the chest. Thanks to her reflexes, she was able to move just enough out of the way that it didn't pierce her heart, but the bullet passed right beside it, grazing it and nicking her lung. While recuperating in a hospital stateside, she met George Richmond, a nurse there. They got married on 12/12/12 and settled together in Beaumont, TX. Their daughter Sadie was born March 3, 2014. Neither George nor Sadie knew about Beth's abilities.

When the event happened, George was at a medical conference in Boulder, CO. Beth was at home with Sadie, and then Sadie was just... gone. Her clothes and the locket she wore with a family picture inside were there, in a pile on the floor, but she had vanished. Beth freaked out and tried calling George, but his phone just rang until it went to voicemail. She tried calling 911 and it just rang endlessly without anyone picking up. She turned the news on and discovered that her daughter wasn't the only one who had disappeared. The family was already stocked up on supplies in the event of an emergency, but Beth joined in on the looting in the first week to acquire more ammo and some more nonperishable foods and water.

She stayed at home for a couple of weeks, keeping looters and other humans away from the house using her guns, though she conserved ammo as best she could. She didn't want to leave right away, just in case Sadie suddenly reappeared. But the longer it went with no sign of any of the missing returning, she packed up her supplies, helped herself to her neighbor's motorcycle, and headed in the direction of Colorado to try to find her husband. The motorcycle didn't last long, after which she had to continue on foot, which was slow going with other desperate people around, the crazy animals, and the occasional crazy human. But she was determined and wasn't going to give up until she found out what happened to her husband. Especially since she discovered she was pregnant again a month after everyone disappeared.

Personality

Out of necessity more than anything else, Tex has cultivated a tough persona. Being a small woman in the Marines, she had to prove herself to be as tough and strong as the big burly men. But she loves her family (both blood and chosen) and is fiercely loyal to and protective of those people. The decimation has damaged her profoundly: her daughter is gone, she has no idea if her husband is or not, and even worse she has no idea where her daughter is gone to... if she's still alive somewhere else, or if she's dead, or what happened, or if it's possible to get her back.

Ability

Enhanced reflexes. She can react to things quicker than even the most skilled normal human. At her best, she can react almost instantaneously, as if completely bypassing her brain at all. It served her well as a sniper: while she had to perfect her aim in a wholly human way, she could take a shot the very instant it was clear. She can catch dropped items before they hit the ground. She can dodge physical attacks (punches, kicks) and, with mild success, even move in time for a bullet to miss vital organs (see history). Like a normal human, alcohol and certain drugs dull her reflexes, though because she starts out at a higher level than normals, she can have several drinks before reaching the "normal human" level of reflexes, and it takes several more for her to become truly impaired.

Mostly, she uses her abilities for her own purposes. They've kept her alive (first in the Middle East, and more recently while she has been traveling from Texas to Colorado), but she has to be careful about them. Nobody knows that she's gifted (aside from her parents and brother), so she has to be careful and aware of herself always, to keep flying under the radar.

Breckenridge

How long has your character been in Breckenridge? If they are newly arrived (within a month of the current game time), what have they been up to since the vanishing? Newly arrived (mid July). She's been working her way toward Boulder from south-east Texas. She heard about Breckenridge and thought that maybe if her husband had survived he might have ended up there.
When they arrived, what accommodations did they request (room in a lodge, apartment, house, other?) A small apartment.
Does your character have a gun? If yes, how did they acquire it and how much ammunition do they have? Yes: a rifle and a handgun. Legally owned (though the sniper scope on the rifle was a black market purchase) prior to the decimation: the rifle for hunting and the handgun for home defense. She has been conserving her ammo as much as possible, and definitely took part in looting immediately after the event, so she has several boxes of ammo for each gun.
What is their primary task? Do they have a secondary task? Security. Secondary task hunting?
