History
Nathan was born in Fall City, the only child to reporter Richard and teacher Elizabeth. He was never particularly remarkable one way or the other as a young child, except that maybe he spent a little bit longer examining dead animals in the woods / roadkill than most other young boys his age. In his teens, he seemed to end up with an aura of suspiciousness around him. It didn't matter if all he was doing was sitting quietly in class, he still seemed like he had done something, or was planning to.
Girls seemed to like that aura, like he was a Bad Boy. He had a few girlfriends through high school, and ended up with a pretty serious one in their senior year, Bronwyn Llewellyn. On Halloween that year, she snuck out of the Little party after the kids were all asleep and her friends were watching movies, and he picked her up in his beat-up old car. One thing led to another, and just before Christmas, she told him she was pregnant. Fall City being a small town, the news didn't stay secret for long. After a lot of threats from his girlfriend's dad and judgemental looks from the town's old ladies, it was decided that the kids would get married right after graduation. So on the day after graduation, Nathan was married, and he was a father before the summer was out.
Their marriage was a rocky one. Neither had particularly wanted to marry young (if at all), and raising a baby when they were practically still kids themselves wasn't easy, even with loads of relatives around. Bronwyn was also starting to feel like that bad boy aura that had drawn her to him maybe wasn't that great of a thing after all. Their child was almost four when they divorced fairly amicably. The mother got full custody of the child, and Nathan left town the following month. Nobody heard from Nathan, not his ex-wife or his parents, until he returned four years later, in August of 1997. He attended his first (and last) March Party that Halloween, then disappeared from town again three months later.
Nathan returned to Fall City for what seems to be for good at the start of summer 2005: he's been here now for thirteen years, the longest stretch of time since he was a kid. He has reconnected with his ex-wife and spent some time getting to know his child, and shortly after he returned, he started up his own business: ExtermiNate. While he had been out of town, he had picked up some work with an extermination company for a while and had learned the ins and outs of pest control. There was an open market in Fall City, so he set up shop as the town's exterminator. He also took a job at the harware store, to have some regular income coming in.
Everyone still seems to sense that aura about him, though. The local police have questioned him about a lot of things that have happened in the last thirteen years, but have never found anything to charge him with, since seeming suspicious isn't a crime. But everyone seems to know that there's something that he's done that isn't right.
Personality
Just about everyone who knows Nathan suspects him of having done something. Nobody can really say what they think he must have done, just that surely he's done something wrong. Nothing has ever been pinned on him, but that doesn't mean he hasn't done anything.
