History

Alessando Costa was born the third child of five to Stefano and Rosalia Costa, both chefs who worked together at Costa, Stefano's family's pasta house in the heart of Venice, Italy. Alessandro, or Sandro as he came to be called, followed Giuseppe and Beatrice, then was followed by Marina and Leonardo, each child about two years younger than the previous. The entire Costa family was muggles, they had no idea that the magical world even existed. Until, that is, Sandro turned eleven.

Sandro had grown up like any little boy in Venice: in and around the water. He could swim like a fish before he could even write his own name, and he was navigating boats around the canals like a pro by the age of ten. He got his first boat when he was nine, which lasted him until he turned fourteen, and his birthday present from his parents that year was his cherished sandolo, which he's used and raced ever since, and installed an in-board motor in this past summer. He hadn't particularly noticed anything unique or strange about himself, but then, he'd always been a happy and easy-going boy, so there wasn't much high emotions to stimulate accidental usage of magic. So it came as a complete shock to the Costa family when a representative from the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic came to the house and informed the family that Sandro was a wizard, and to invite him to attend their school for the next seven years.

The Costa family took a while to get used to the idea of Sandro being a wizard, and ultimately decided to send him to the Academy. As soon as Sandro arrived at Beauxbatons that September, he was in awe. There were so many exciting things to discover about magic, but his favourite by far was the sport of quidditch. He excitedly drank everything he could about the sport that first year: reading any books on it he could find in the library, watching every match intently, even managing to sneak into the stands to watch the teams practicing for their matches. By the time try-outs came up the following year, he was ready. Unfortunately, being so green to the sport (and having had little time in that first year to actually practice), he only managed to make the team as a reserve keeper, but that gave him opportunity to get more practice, and by his fourth year, he was starting as keeper.

When it came time to try out for the school's team for the Junior International Quidditch Tournament, Sandro of course went out for the team. It was very close for him to make the team as starting keeper, but he lucked out and scored the spot. He is still considering quidditch as a potential future career, and he hopes that scouts for the professional teams will be impressed to see him play and offer him a position on one of their teams. If professional quidditch isn't in the cards for him, he might follow older brother Giuseppe into culinary school and either go to work in the family restaurant or another restaurant.

Personality

Alessandro is a very outgoing and cheerful guy. He likes girls and having fun, and he's not afraid to show it. In a way, he's sort of like a big puppy dog: he loves to please and is always happy and cheerful. And he'll chase after frisbees and balls if you throw them for him. Once he explained the game of quidditch to his family and his role as Keeper, they laughed and said it was natural for him, chasing after the big red ball. Overall, though, he's an easy-going guy, quick to a smile or laugh, slow to a frown or a scowl. He seems at times like it would just be impossible to make him angry, like he has no bad side to speak of, but that's mostly because he saves his anger for people who hate him just because he's a muggleborn. He loves his family and hates anyone who thinks he's "lesser" because he's from them instead of some magical family.

Sandro also very definitely likes girls and is something of a burgeoning ladies' man and flirt, but he's also very much monogamous: if he's dating a girl, he's only got eyes for her, he won't flirt with another girl or cheat or anything. He's as loyal as a puppy dog and treats girls like royalty, regardless of whether or not he's dating them. His father taught him well, he says. And because his father was his teacher in that respect, he also knows how to woo girls with food: he's a deft hand in the kitchen and won't hesitate to whip up something romantic and delicious for a lovely lady. Cooking is one of his passions, tied with boat racing and quidditch. He's easily excited over shiny new boats, shiny new brooms, and shiny new cookware. At home, he loves watching boat racing and cooking shows on the telly, and he has his own wireless to listen to quidditch matches.

If he had gone to Hogwarts instead of Beauxbatons, the hat probably would have been torn between putting him in Gryffindor or Hufflepuff, with a slight lean toward the latter. He's fearless and brave, but loyal and hardworking, too. He's not a particularly good student, though. Although he's bright enough, he doesn't apply himself to his studies as much as he could, because the way he sees it, he doesn't particularly need to do particularly well in his classes for either of his future career plans: quidditch star or chef. He likes Potions well enough because it's similar to cooking, but he just doesn't apply himself particularly to doing well in the rest of his classes.
