History

After her family fled to stay with her mother's family in France during the war, Eloise Midgen's life changed. Even after the war ended, she stayed in France, having fallen in love with a schoolmate. Unfortunately, their relationship ended abruptly when she discovered he was cheating on her, and she fled back to England, pregnant with her ex-fiancé's child. Working for the Ministry as a translator to support herself and daughter Vivienne, Eloise wasn't back in England for long before she fell in love again, this time with somebody who actually loved her back: Marc Sauveterre, a translator for the French Ministry. Marc was able to woo Eloise back to France after only a few months of dating, and they were married quickly. Vivienne quickly gained three half-siblings: Charlotte, Jacques, and Ludivine.

With a half-French, half-British mother and a full-French father, both of whom were fluent in several languages and worked as translators, all four Midgen-Sauveterre children were raised to not only be fluent in both French and English, but also to speak Spanish, German, and Italian. Vivienne might not have been Marc's daughter biologically, but she was treated the same as her younger siblings, and Charlotte grew up not knowing anything other than that Vivi was her big sister. Of course, Eloise told all the children about her own history, once she thought they were old enough to know. She cautioned them to be careful with who they gave their hearts to. For every Marc, there were countless Juliens (Julien being Vivienne's biological father).

Charlotte took this to heart more than her brother or either of her sisters. She loved her big sister, and she couldn't imagine her life without her, but she didn't want to end up the same way her mother had. Where her mother fell in love quickly and easily, Charlotte wasn't sure if she would ever fall in love. She devoted her life to sports instead, striving to be the best quidditch player she could be. She spent countless hours practicing, and she easily made the team at Beauxbatons once she joined Vivienne there. Charlotte quickly made it her goal to be the best keeper to ever play at Beauxbatons, with the obvious goal of playing professionally after school. In place of worrying about what boys thought about her, or falling in love and dating, Charlotte devoted herself instead to quidditch, spending her free time (when not studying) practicing on the pitch.

Now in her seventh year, with the Junior International Quidditch Tournament happening, Charlotte didn't even pretend to be subtle about it: she wanted the keeper spot on the Beauxbatons team, and she didn't care what she had to do to get it. Of course, it helped that she was the best keeper the school had to offer, and it was only natural for her to be chosen. Charlotte hopes that this will be exactly what she needs to make the jump to a professional team once she's done with the school year, so she will definitely be showing off for the scouts.

Personality

On the outside, Charlotte looks like just another jock: she veritably eats, sleeps, and breathes auidditch, and is absolutely devoted to being the best she can be at it, no matter the cost. The only reason she strives to keep her grades up is so that she can stay on the team, so she only takes classes that she's interested in or naturally good at. None of her classes seem to scream "future career path" because, quite frankly, she only has one in mind: quidditch. She has no backup plan. She does lean more toward "jock" than "girly girl" — she's a skilled hand at makeup thanks to tutelage from her elder sister, and she's a fan of skirts and dresses (when not on the broomstick, of course!), but she's not one to squeal and giggle over cute boys. In fact, she's more likely to talk about the awesome quidditch move that hot professional player pulled than, well, how hot he was. And don't ask her who of her classmates is the hottest, she'll be at a loss.

She also hates to be idle. She likes to always be doing something, no matter what it is. If she's not practicing quidditch or studying for her classes, she's engaging in one of her multiple hobbies: she reads, she doodles, she's even attempted juggling at one point. Most of her hobbies (okay, all of them) have only been picked up as a way to avoid idleness: if she finds herself idle and with nothing to do, she ends up finding something to do, which has led to an odd collection of random minor hobbies. She isn't necessarily good at many of them, but she doesn't really care about getting good at her hobbies: they're just things she does to pass the time.

Charlie's friendly enough, but she sometimes has trouble making friends. It's mostly because she has a hard time finding things to talk about with her fellow students: she doesn't have much to talk about besides quidditch. Her teammates are her closest friends because she can talk the sport with them, and she's friendly with her roommates more out of necessity and proximity than any real connection (or so she feels), but she just feels socially awkward around anyone else unless she's talking about her favourite sport.

At her mother's urging, she got involved in volunteer work when she was thirteen. Eloise had a friend who worked at a local orphanage in Marseille, and she nudged Charlie into volunteering there in her free time. Charlie discovered that while she wasn't very good at talking to her own peers, she was pretty good with the kids. She could tell them stories (and make up stories about Princess Charlie the best quidditch player in the world) and the kids were fascinated. Plus, playing catch with them is kind of similar to playing quidditch.
