History

Olivia was born the second child of two loving parents, Malcolm and Brenda Dawson, in Austin, Texas. Clara, her older sister by three years, was the boisterous and out-going one, demanding attention whenever she entered a room. In contrast, Olivia became a modest and shy girl, almost hidden by the enormous shadow cast by her sister. Olivia didn't mind so much being relatively ignored, and instead she buried herself in books and her own imagination.

Puberty came a little late for Olivia, she was almost fourteen when she finally started "becoming a real woman!" (as her sister so lovingly put it), though Olivia didn't really care much for the changes. In fact, she didn't like them much at all. When some of the other kids at school teased her for being puny, she locked herself in a bathroom stall for ten minutes while she cried. While reaching for the toilet paper holder to grab some of the tissue to wipe her eyes, her hand moved straight through it and into the wall. Terrified of what would happen to her if someone found out about what happened, she kept it to herself, and concentrated on it not happening again. At home, however, locked away in her room, she tested this power she had discovered, but couldn't figure out how to "turn it on."

Shortly after her fifteenth birthday, a man came to the Dawson house. He introduced himself as Professor Samuel Green, previously the Headmaster of Bridgemont, a prestigious boarding school in New York. Professor Green explained that he was opening a new boarding school in Montana and was looking for students of Olivia's caliber. He explained that admission to the school is by invitation only, and it is quite an honor for Olivia to have been chosen. Later, speaking privately to Olivia about the school, he explained the school's real purpose: to help mutants in a safe environment, away from the persecution they garnered from the rest of the world. Olivia happily accepted the invitation, glad to have somewhere safe to go, with other people like herself.
