History
- Neville Longbottom and Hannah Abbott met through Dumbledore's Army. Though perhaps "met" isn't precisely the correct word, since they had already been going to school together for four and a half years by that point and had had classes together. But it was really Dumbledore's Army, especially under Neville's co-leadership in their seventh year, that brought them together.
- After the end of the war, Neville and Hannah began dating. Theirs was a long courtship, but they finally got engaged in 2002 and married in 2005. One of the reasons for the long courtship and long engagement was because of their jobs: Hannah was working at the Leaky Cauldron, a job she was thorougly dedicated to and, by 2004, Tom was starting to groom the young woman to take over for him when he would eventually retire (which happened at the end of 2010). Neville worked first to help round up the remaining Death Eaters, then began working as an herbologist. When Professor Sprout retired from Hogwarts in 2003, Neville was offered the position of Herbology Professor, making him barely five years older than his oldest students.
- After they were married, Neville and Hannah had three children in short order: Frank in [approx 2007], Algernon in [2008-09], and finally Callidora at the very end of 2009. With both Neville and Hannah's busy schedules, and Hannah being made landlady of the Leaky when Callidora was not quite a year old, they decided to stop with the three.
- As the only girl and youngest child, Callie was the princess of the Longbottom family, and she certainly didn't let anyone forget that. Her childhood was mostly spent running around the Diagon area with her brothers, while their father was up at the school and their mother was working. As such, Callie knows every nook and cranny of the Diagon area. Yes, even Knockturn.
- Her first display of magic was when she was five years old: Frank accidentally bumped into her and made her drop her ice cream on the ground. In a typical five-year-old fit of anger, she not only knocked down a couple of nearby tables, but also knocked Frank's ice cream out of his hands and onto the ground.
- Despite the fact that Frank was always the one of the three kids who seemed the most Ravenclaw-like, Callie was still disappointed when, in September of 2018, Frank was sorted into Ravenclaw. She figured that she was headed for Gryffindor, and had wanted to be in the same house as both of her brothers. After a while, Callie grudgingly admitted that Ravenclaw really was the best fit for her eldest brother.
- In September of 2020, Callie was the last remaining Longbottom at home with her mother, as that was when Algernon went off to school. To her delight, her father came home that evening (he generally commuted between school and the family's home above the pub) and informed Hannah and Callie that Algernon had been sorted into his own former house.
- Despite both of her brothers being at school, Callie still managed to get into her own fun troubles at home and on the lane. [possibly with Roxy Weasley?]
- In September of 2021, Callie took the train to Hogwarts with her brothers for the first time, and the hat barely skimmed the top of her head before declaring her a Gryffindor. The cheers from her father were the loudest in the room, and Callie was blushing with pride.
- Her first two years at Hogwarts were relatively quiet, or as quiet as one could feasibly expect from a rambunctious young girl who certainly had no qualms about finding her own fun. Of course, any misbehaviours were tempered by the fact that her father was a teacher, and she could pretty much guarantee swift response to misbehaviour and rule-breaking, not only from the Hogwarts staff, but also from her parents. Who needed a Howler when you might be called into your beloved father's office and be scolded, knowing very well that your mother could have been summoned through the floo, as well?
- The classes she excelled in were Herbology (of course, and no her father wasn't grading her easy just because she was his daughter: she earned her scores, as she proved when she earned an O on her Herbology O.W.L.), Defense Against the Dark Arts (but who wouldn't, with Neville Longbottom and Hannah Abbott as their parents, and Frank and Alice Longbottom as grandparents?), and (surprisingly) History of Magic.
- Third year, of course, was when things got interesting with the introduction of the Prank Wars. She knew the Potters (and Weasleys), of course, through her parents, so it really was no surprise to her when James started the Prank Wars. Despite only being a third year, Callie participated as much as she could. Fourth year proceeded much the same, and Callie was happy that the Prank Wars continued on, even without James Potter there. [possibly open to tweaking on how much she participated in her fourth year, depending on Algernon's player & whether he would have cracked down on his own sister]
- With the summer before she began fifth year came a surprise: a Prefect badge to match the one Algernon had received the previous year. Of course, it was a delightful surprise that Callie excitedly squealed about with absolutely everyone who would stop and listen for a moment or two. Of course, being a prefect made the Prank Wars an interesting dilemma. She, of course, still tried to participate as much as she could, but she stepped back on the participation, due to not wanting to bring shame on her badge (after all, now that she was Prefect, she was shooting for Head Girl in a few years).
- O.W.L.s passed without much comment: she certainly did not have the nervous breakdown that her mother'd had in fifth year, and she passed all her classes with flying colours, Os and Es in everything. Okay, fine, she got that one A in Divination, but it's such a worthless class anyway, she only took it because it sounded absolutely bizarre, and she was quite happy to drop it before sixth year.
- Now that she is starting sixth year, her eyes are still on the prize of Head Girl, and she's still looking forward to the Prank Wars resuming for a fourth year. Sure, it was always a seventh year to win the past three years (and Potters two of them), but Callie figures that it's about time a sixth year wins (and brings the glory back to Gryffindor after Charlotte McCormack won for Hufflepuff last year). Even if she can't outright win herself, perhaps she can at least help Roxy win for the Gryffindor sixth years?
Personality
The youngest of three children, and the only girl at that, Callie could have gone either way: completely girly-girl to counteract two older brothers, or completely tomboy from spending so much time around boys. As it so happened, Callie found a nice happy middle between the two. She loved the rough-and-tumble stuff, the "let's go out and break a few bones and get completely messy and dirty in the process!" stuff, but then once she was inside, cleaned up, wounds mended, she was perfectly content to change from jeans and t-shirt into skirts or dresses and play with her dolls. She is far from prissy, however, and has been known to hike up her skirts and chase after her older brothers if need be.
Callie inherited more Gryffindor traits from her father than Hufflepuff traits from her mother, but both houses are evident in her regardless. Bravery to the point of recklessness (but only sometimes; she has a tendency to plan her brave outbursts: always check before diving into a pool to make sure that there's water!), reliability, stability, loyalty, hard-working, responsibility, self confidence, … stubbornness, obsession with work. She wasn't made Prefect for nothing, after all. Of course, with the Prank Wars, to be a Prefect is to be in a precarious position, but it is one that Callie rather loves finding herself in (mostly because it gives her a nice dilemma to work through). Of course, she wouldn't partake in the pranks herself (okay, maybe food fights …) because that would be disrespecting the authority she has been given. But she can hardly take points away from her own friends and housemates if they partake, as long as she doesn't actually witness them actually doing something. She wants a Gryffindor to win, after all! As long as nobody gets seriously hurt, of course. (Not to mention that it's hard to truly misbehave when your father is RIGHT THERE at the school … you can't really get away with as much as you would otherwise.)
With her family, it's hard to not be driven: her paternal grandparents were well-known and well-liked Aurors, her father is the Herbology professor at Hogwarts, and her mother owns the Leaky Cauldron. With eldest brother Frank training to be an Auror in his grandparents' footsteps, naturally everyone is looking to Algernon and Callidora to have lofty ambitions as well. Right now, Callie is happy to be a teenager, but she has her eyes on the prize: the Department of International Cooperation. First step is becoming Head Girl. Then, after finishing school, she'll start out small in the Department, of course (she's realistic). But she'll work her way up to Diplomat. Then Head of the Department. Then, one day, Minister for Magic. Heaven (or maybe hell?) help whoever dares tell her she can't or dares to stand in her way.
All those dirty comments you think you can make about her surname? Callie has already been there and done that, she even has the t-shirt (no, seriously, she actually made a t-shirt when she was 13 that said as much). And besides, the "long" jokes apply more to her brothers, don't you think? Callie has a wicked sense of humour, and she'll be quick to beat you to the punchline of any joke you can think to make. Just please don't ask her how well the name applies to her brothers, she might have to hurt you.
Callie is a great friend, though. If you are her friend, then she is there for you, no matter what. If you're a friend of Callie's, you've a friend for life. Need someone to vent to? A shoulder to cry on? Someone to find a really good reason to take ten points from your ex because he broke your heart? Callie's there for you. Don't forget, Callie's dad is the one who beheaded You-Know-Who's snake. That kind of badassery is just plain genetic.
Spoiled and stubborn? Callie? Well, maybe just a bit. It comes from being not only the baby of the family, but also the only girl. She knows what she wants, and dammit she really wants it! And if she gets it in her head that something has to be a certain way, then she will make sure that it is that way, no matter what she has to do. And she's as stubborn as a mule once she sets her mind to something: it would be easier to teach a flobberworm to jump through a burning hoop than it would be to change Callie's mind.
