History

Louise was the second daughter born to John and Adelaide Dawlish. She was born near the end of the first wizarding war, so she and older sister Helen lived a rather quiet, simple childhood. They had the usual childhood bickering, just from being sisters so close in age: one day best friends, the next day mortal enemies. With both parents working for the Ministry, both Helen and Louise were raised to be loyal to the wizarding world's government, because of course they should be. Adelaide, who had trained as a Healer before going to work for the Ministry, was also always instilling in her daughters the understanding that all humans (witches, wizards, purebloods, halfbloods, muggleborns, squibs, muggles) were the same and equally deserving of respect.

Helen was off to Hogwarts first, where she was sorted into Gryffindor. And boy was she happy to send a boastful letter a year later when The Boy Who Lived was also sorted into her house! When Louise finally joined her sister at Hogwarts the following year, a part of her hoped to be sorted into Gryffindor as well, but the hat placed her into her father's house: Ravenclaw. Although she was sad to not share a common room with her sister (and a little jealous to not share it with Harry Potter like she did), she did understand why she was placed into Ravenclaw: she preferred scholarly pursuits, and felt comfortable around her peers. Plus, she had always been close to her father, and she was happy to share the blue and bronze with him.

It was a lot of pressure, though, knowing what she had to live up to. Her father had earned all Outstandings on his N.E.W.T.s, and she had dreamed for years of following in his footsteps as an Auror. He was her idol, and all she wanted was to make him proud of her. She immediately threw herself into her studies, but she was a little slower to make friends: she was friendly and happy to talk, but shy about starting up conversations. Even with all the crazy things happening inside the school, she managed to stay on top of her schoolwork, though she certainly worried a lot about her father in her second year, being an Auror on the hunt for the escaped infamous mass-murderer Sirius Black.

With the frequent changes in Defense professor, Louise was positive that she would never pass her Defense O.W.L., which she absolutely needed to if she was going to become an Auror. Like other fifth years, she spent that entire year stressing out over the increased work load, and even among the Ravenclaws she was exceptionally studious that year. She had to visit Madam Pomfrey more than a few times for calming draughts to make it through the year. At the end of the year, she finally sat her O.W.L.s (and did better in most of them than she had expected), but was completely shaken by the sudden death of the Headmaster. Her parents, likewise, were unhappy about that: they had already considered keeping her and Helen home the previous year (but her father pointed out that they would be safer at school with Dumbledore there, plus they both had important exams that year), and Adelaide put her foot down over the summer that she wanted to keep Louise home for her sixth year, they could find a tutor for her so that she wouldn't fall behind in her classes. But then the news came that attendance for the following year was mandatory, and John insisted that the Ministry had the children's best interests in mind, so Louise found herself packing her things to return to Hogwarts again. She's still worried about her father (and her sister, who got a job in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement over the summer, thanks to him pulling strings), but at least at school she can continue working toward her dream of becoming an Auror... even though she's not sure anymore if she wants to work for the Ministry at all.

Personality

Speculative: It's probably a fairly cliché thing for a Ravenclaw, but Louise is particularly thoughtful and speculative, even among her fellow Eagles. She prefers to think before speaking (or writing), and she tends not to simply jump to conclusions. She likes to have as much of the story as possible before making a decision on it, and also tends to think several steps ahead, working out as many possible outcomes as she can. It's one thing that makes her so good at chess.

Indecisive: On the flip side, she can sometimes end up being indecisive. She can't make quick decisions, and while she rarely second-guesses herself when she finally does make an important decision, she will frequently waffle a bit on seemingly small decisions (blue or black ink? Where to go first in Hogsmeade?).

Shy: Partly because of how long she takes to think before speaking, Louise is a bit shy in social situations. She has a hard time making small talk, and tends not to start up conversations. She has a bit of a constant feeling in the back of her mind that she's bothering people by starting up a conversation, or inviting people to spend time with her.

Friendly: However, once she gets drawn into conversation, and around people she is more comfortable with, she is very warm, friendly, and sociable. Once she makes a friend, she tends to keep them. Even around people she isn't necessarily friends with, she is at least polite. She loves platonic hugs and cuddles with her friends, boy or girl. Though if they feel anything beyond platonic, she's completely unaware of it.

Observant: Along with liking to gather all information before making decisions, Louise tends to watch and listen more than talk. Even when she doesn't seem to be paying attention, she tends to still be listening, or watching out of the corner of her eye. Usually she's just taking mental notes to file away for later, she rarely acts on anything she simply overhears, but who knows when something might be important later?

Prefect: Louise wasn't overly surprised when she was made Prefect in her fifth year, considering she had a good track record of not getting into trouble, and of being responsible. She likes to think that she handles the power as well as any teenager would: she tries to not be a complete stick-in-the-mud, and allows for some leeway, but she still tries her best to keep everyone obeying the school rules.

Questioning: Now sixteen, almost seventeen, Louise is questioning just about everything. She feels like, by this point, surely she should have had a few crushes. Surely she should want to be going on dates. Surely she should be wanting one of the boys in her class to kiss her in empty corridors. But she doesn't want any of that, and she doesn't know why. Just the thought of kissing makes her feel a little ill, and sex is just absolutely something she doesn't even want to think about. She wonders if she's broken, for not wanting any of these things that are surely normal for every other teenager, and she's not sure who to even talk to about any of it, afraid of being gossiped about. And on top of all the normal adolescent sexuality questioning, she's also questioning her loyalty to the Ministry and her desire to become an Auror. After what happened in her fourth year, with the Ministry denying the return of You-Know-Who while the Headmaster insisted it was true, only to find out at the end of the year that the Headmaster had been right all along, Louise had already begun to question how much she should trust the Ministry. And now with the news of the muggle registration, and that it might not be innocent, she just isn't sure if the Ministry is where her loyalty should lie, or if she'll want to work for them after she graduates. But if she can't trust the Ministry, who can she trust? Especially since now Headmaster Dumbledore is gone. And she absolutely won't readily discuss any of this questioning, either, out of fear of being labeled a traitor.
