History

Several generations ago, the Cooper family hit it big in oil in Texas. By the time Noah came around, the family was living quite comfortably, thanks to smart investments of the oil money, along with the family tending towards high-prestige, high-pay jobs. Noah himself was a lawyer, and when he married Spring Hill, Tennessee, native Meredith Jackson, he relocated to the city, transferring his practice to nearby Nashville. Their only child, daughter Izzy Cooper, was born May 16, 1976. Izzy had as charmed and comfortable a life as the rest of the Cooper clan, despite being several states away from the bulk of the family. Izzy didn't mind being so far away from the Cooper side of the family, however, because she had a cousin right in the same city: Cora Harwood, from her mother's side of the family. Cora, too, was an only child, so Izzy took on an older-sister role to her cousin, and they were quite close.

Izzy was always interested in both business and philanthropy. After graduating from high school in 1994, she attended Belmont University in Nashville, earning her Bachelor of Business Administration in 1998. Teaming up with a college friend, she opened a supernatural-themed restaurant in Nashville, Night Bite, which was a hit. Through it all, she became heavily involved in several charities, and Night Bite donated a portion of their proceeds to charity (usually a new charity was chosen every month to be the recipient of the donations; often the charity would be chosen by patrons of the restaurant), in addition to being used to hold fundraisers.

Of course, she returned to Spring Hill for her cousin Cora's wedding to Garreth Harkenrider. Even while Izzy had been busy with school and getting her restaurant off the ground, she and Cora had remained close (and Izzy had visited often, since Spring Hill was only about 30 miles away), so she was a little saddened when Garreth and Cora moved to New York. However, she was positively thrilled when she found out that they were expecting a baby, even moreso when they asked her to be their child's godmother (and of course she said yes!).

That joy and happiness were shattered when Cora died after giving birth to baby Melanthe. Izzy turned day-to-day operations of the restaurant over to her partner and relocated to New York to help Garreth with the baby. While in New York, she also opened a branch of her restaurant in the city. She didn't regret moving to New York, as Garreth went to pieces and took to drinking; somebody needed to help take care of the baby, after all, and take care of the man that Cora had loved. Still worried about Garreth, she decided to move to Aruba, as well, when he had decided to take Melanthe there. Again, somebody needed to make sure they were okay, and there was only a slightly selfish tint to it: with the successes of the restaurants in Nashville and NYC, why not try opening one in Aruba, as well? At the very least, the resort was beautiful, and after having been working almost non-stop since she was eighteen, she felt that she deserved a nice vacation to a gorgeous Caribbean resort!
