History

Geraint Crook was born in Wales. He grew up there until he was eleven, then he spent the next seven years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the first Wizard in his family. While at Hogwarts, he was drawn to potions, and was thrilled beyond measure to be accepted as an apprentice at an apothecary in Paris. Having never set foot outside of the British Isles, he was looking forward to going to France. In January of 1958 came an event that would ultimately change the direction of his life, though he didn't realise it at the time. He met a girl, Lorraine Marceau, when she came into the shop one day. They began dating, and all was good. Geraint felt like this was the life, living in a foreign country, learning the tricks of the trade he now longed to be a part of, and dating a pretty foreign girl. Nothing could get better … until she told him that she was pregnant. Instead of immediately proposing, as she obviously expected, Geraint went in the opposite direction and told her that he didn't want to get married. The next day, a man showed up at the shop and essentially threatened that if Geraint did not leave France to never return, and if he ever contacted Lorraine again, he would suffer dire consequences.

And so Geraint left. His year-long apprenticeship was over, and the apothecarist who had apprenticed him used his contacts to get him a job at an apothecary in Dublin, Ireland: Flanagan Apothecary. It was there that, about a year later, Geraint met fellow Welsh-transplant Kendall Argall, who was taking part in a protest against an eatery across the street for their claims of using real unicorn meat. They were married by early May, 1960, and in March of 1961, they brought daughter Glenda into the family. As the daughter of an apothecarist and an activist, Glenda grew up with two passions: potions and activism. Kendall would often bring young Glenda along with her for the more peaceable protests and ralleys, but then Glenda would stay at the shop with her father while Kendall went off to the rowdier ones. Glenda would help her father out in the shop, whether it was stocking ingredients or even just watching him brew potions in the back.

In 1970, the owner of Flanagan Apothecary retired and passed ownership of the apothecary to Geraint, who immediately 'hired' his daughter to be a part-time stock girl, after her classes at the local muggle primary school were out for the day, and then also during vacations. In 1972, Glenda received her Hogwarts letter and went off to her parents' alma mater, where she was sorted into Slytherin. Her father assured her that during the holidays, her job would still be waiting for her if she wanted it.

In a house seemingly dominated by purist ideals, a young halfblood girl who claimed loudly that all bloodlines were equal — indeed, all creatures were equal — was something of a different person to end up in the house, to say the least. She didn't care that other students didn't agree with her morals and ideals, and although she would preach to (okay, fine, bitch at) them about how morally wrong it is to eat animal products and use animal products for consumerist purposes, her arguments unfortunately fell upon mostly-deaf ears, not only amongst her own house but also other houses. When, a month into her first term at Hogwarts, she protested the lack of sufficiant vegan options provided by the Hogwarts kitchens, she gained some support, part of which was when she talked childhood friend (and, actually, neighbor) Thomas Tatting (a fellow first year, although he was sorted into Gryffindor) into joining her. In fact, she often would talk Thomas into participating in her protests, whatever they may be.

In Glenda's third year, fifth year Gryffindor Heliotrope Willis started an unsanctioned student organisation, Students for Troll Rights. Glenda was the first to sign up for the club and happily took up the cause. For, of course, trolls were living creatures just the same as any other and deserved the same rights as any other living being. Glenda also joined the Potions Club and, in her fourth year, was invited by Professor Slughorn (despite her frequent butting of heads with her Head of House and Potions Professor) to join his Slug Club.

When it came to making friends, Glenda didn't care about house, age, or bloodline. She would befriend anyone who would actually listen to her. Those willing to actually debate with her rose immensely in her opinion of them, though her friends (and, really, everyone) would be nearly constantly bombarded with her comments about how eating meat or using "inhumanely harvested animal parts" is murder. Those who are closer to her and / or have been friends with her longer should be quite used to this and would most likely just roll their eyes and accept this good-naturedly.
