History

The eldest child of Marcus and Diana Belby, Aglaia Regan was born in early August, 1956, followed a few years later first by Hephaestus, then Damocles. Marcus and Diana both loved Greek mythology, hence their children's names: Aglaia was one of the three graces, Hephaestus was the God of fire and forging, and Damocles was a member of the court of Dionysius the Elder, the king of Syracuse. Regardless of the source of their names, Aglaia began to dislike her own first name, so at the age of seven she insisted upon being referred to by her middle name, Regan.

The Belby parents were very big on reading, stressing the importance of reading and knowledge among their children. As such, Regan grew up with her nose permanently glued into a book. The only thing that could really drag her attention away from reading was quidditch. Marcus, who had played quidditch at Hogwarts, loved regaling his children with stories of matches, both ones he'd been in at Hogwarts and professional ones he'd been to. The three Belby children all learned how to play quidditch, all the ins and outs of the game, rules, famous plays, all that. Regan chose to take this knowledge and, instead of play the sport herself, become a commentator.

As the eldest child, Regan loved being in the spotlight. She thrived when given attention, quickly learning ways to ensure that attention was on her. She would take some of the books that she loved and act them out for her family (often enlisting Heph's and Dam's help). Her parents often called her their overdramatic little princess, because Regan was capable of taking little things and dramatizing them into something much bigger. But Regan drank in the attention that resulted, and neither Marcus nor Diana had it in them to suppress her creativity.

Academically, Regan was not particularly a whiz. She studied, yes, and she enjoyed the knowledge that she gained, but she didn't live in the library or live for her classes or anything like that. But socially, Regan blossomed at Hogwarts. She drew attention to herself in class by volunteering whenever the teacher needed a volunteer, throwing up her hand instantly whenever a question was asked, and basically just showing off. She met Annalise Quilitt their first day at Hogwarts and they became fast friends. In her first year, she joined the choir, then in her second year, she signed on to be a quidditch announcer. It gave her a way to command the attention of the student body without putting her own body at risk to the bludgers. This, it turned out, was one of the best decisions she ever made.

While commentating the Gryffindor / Ravenclaw match in her fifth year, she made a particularly cutting remark (some would consider it catty, yet clever) about one of the Gryffindor beaters, Patrick Wood. The remark? "And Gryffindor beater Patrick Wood proves that old stereotype about Gryffindor's brawns over brains. All the force behind that last hit toward the Ravenclaw seeker, but none of the aim." After that match, he pursued her, and she played the best game of hard-to-get possible. Frankly, at first she really wasn't all too interested in him, but he was persistant and, she had to admit, awfully cute. And she loved the attention he was giving her. By the time he graduated (a year ahead of her), they were completely and truly mad for each other … and she had him wrapped nicely around her little finger. They maintained their relationship even while he was apprenticing under a wizard geologist (he had always loved rocks, this Regan had learned) and she was in her seventh year at Hogwarts. After she graduated, they were married. They lived together in a small flat in London for that first year, before they were able to purchase a cottage in Cornwall. They welcomed their son, Oliver, on December 8, 1975. Regan currently splits her time being "mommy" and being an actress, always auditioning for stage performances.
