History

Geoffrey Hooper Jr was the first-born child of Laura and Geoffrey Hooper Sr, a muggleborn and half-blood who fell in love in school and got married within a couple years of graduating, while Geoffrey Sr was apprenticed with a magigeologist. Geoff Jr was followed within the next few years by a brother and two sisters: Christopher, Sadie, and Louisa. The four children were mostly raised by Laura, since Geoffrey Sr was often away from home for weeks at a time, off in another country to examine rocks and ruins. He sometimes brought his wife and children with him, and Geoff absolutely loved seeing what his father did. But as he got older, whenever Geoffrey Sr was gone, Geoff began stepping into the position of Man Of The House, helping his mother with his younger siblings and protecting them. As a result, he grew up particularly close to all his siblings, but especially his youngest sister Louisa (who everyone calls Lou because both Chris and Sadie had trouble saying "Louisa" when she was born), whose diapers he helped change. Geoff quickly began viewing himself as the Protector: if ever his siblings were picked on, he would step in and defend them. Right from the start, he knew he wanted to do something that would help people, to be a champion for the underdog, stand up for the little guy, be the hero.

Hogwarts changed that for him. Nobody was surprised when he was sorted into Gryffindor, and he was excited to be in the same house as THE Harry Potter, who was only a year older than he was, but he was already a hero. He didn't worship Harry remotely as much as roommate Colin, but he was still definitely a fan. He cheered for Harry during the Tri-Wizard tournament in third year, even though part of him didn't think it was entirely fair that not only did Hogwarts have two champions, but Harry was also too young to be in the tournament. His fourth year brought the opportunity for Geoff to try out for quidditch, though he lost out to Ron Weasley because the Captain, Angelina, was annoyed by his whining (in his defense, the sun was too bright and blinding him, his hair kept getting in his eyes …). But the following year was made better when he got a Prefect badge. Finally, he thought, a chance to stand up for the underdog. Who needed quidditch when you could be a Prefect? In career advising that year, he announced to Professor McGonagall that he wanted to be an Auror, and she helped him outline which classes he would need to get good OWLs marks on and continue in his sixth and seventh years, so he threw himself into those classes and his new Prefect duties.

Although he began sixth year well on the track to becoming an Auror, he realised over the course of the year that he might not be cut out for it. For starters, he was spending the entirety of the school year steeped in worry: his mother was a muggleborn, and as news started spreading about the Muggleborn Registration, his parents made the decision to flee the country with Lou, who wasn't old enough yet for Hogwarts. They managed to escape, but Geoff, Chris, and Sadie couldn't hear from them, so Geoff could only expect the worst. But upon getting back to school, his Auror dream started fading quickly. It started with seeing the Aurors who were stationed at the school. They were hardly standing up for the underdog and were letting the students get hurt. But then he started getting detentions for fighting back, and he realised that he couldn't really withstand much actual physical pain. He fought in the Battle of Hogwarts at the end of the year, taking on a giant with a few others, but he couldn't really handle all the physicality of it all. At least he learned before he tried to get into the Auror programme. His parents and Lou returned within a few weeks of the news of Voldemort's death spreading, and Geoff was happy to be reunited with his family.

He did return to Hogwarts for his seventh year, as the school was being rebuilt, but he felt at a loss for what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. It was his girlfriend, Vicky Frobisher (whom he'd begun dating the previous year), who helped him realise that he had always loved traveling with his dad and helping him out and playing in the dirt with rocks. Over the winter hols, Geoff had a proposition in place for his father: he could take him on as an apprentice. Geoffrey Sr was glad that his son wanted to follow in his footsteps, and of course he took his son on as an apprentice.

Geoff and Vicky continued dating after they graduated, and they dated for several years as they both got used to being out in the "real world," not to mention being able to go out on real dates that didn't involve Hogsmeade. Also, they both had their new jobs, and Geoff was traveling quite a bit with his father as he learned the magigeologist trade. Plus, with the war finally over, Geoff just wanted to take things slow and not rush into things. Three years after they graduated, Geoff went shopping for a sparkly ring, got down on bended knee, and proposed to Vicky. They got married in August of that year.

After they were married (and even sometimes before), Geoff liked bringing Vicky with him on work trips. It was actually through her trips with Geoff that Vicky decided on a career change: she started working with Geoff for his father. Geoff did the digging and examining, Vicky took down notes and kept his files orderly. This was absolutely perfect for Geoff, because it meant that she would always get to come with him when he had to travel, they wouldn't have to worry about whether it would conflict with her job.

They were married for a few years before their first child, Douglas (there was no way he was naming his son Geoffrey Alexander Hooper III), was born. At that point, Geoff and Vicky realised that the small flat they'd been living in just wasn't big enough for the three of them, so they bought a house in Dunmoody. Really, Geoff just wanted a place where they could have a backyard for Dougie to run around and play in as he grew up, and easy access to parks, too. A couple years after Dougie was born, he was joined by a little sister, Catherine. Geoff absolutely loves his children and dotes on them like any proud daddy. His family is his entire life, and he just can't wait until the kids are old enough to really be able to show them around when they travel. Even at only almost-five years old, Dougie at least already loves playing with rocks with his daddy, so Geoff has high hopes.

Personality

If there is one thing that Geoff doesn't lack, it's personality. Actually, his brother sometimes informs him that he has too much. He's a bit of a cheerful jokester, always willing to belittle himself or do anything at his own expense to make others happy (especially Vicky, he would do absolutely anything to keep her happy). He just lives to entertain. If he's not making people laugh, he's not doing his job. He is absolutely a family-man, and whenever he's not working, he's often to be found at the park or out in the backyard with the kids. He's the dad who is always available to help build a treehouse or referee a race or take the kids on an outing to the zoo.

Geoff isn't quite as hot-headed as most other Gryffindors are painted to be. He likes going into things with a plan as opposed to just jumping in feet-first and figuring everything out later, but he's pretty flexible and fine with changes to the plan. In fact, half the time he abandons the plan halfway through anyway. The important thing is, there was a plan to begin with.

He's a fairly easy-going guy for the most part. He'll roll with things, but he does get protective (like a mama bear, only a dude) and snaps when his family is threatened. He's most obviously your stereotypical Gryffindor when his family is being threatened: he has a tendency in those situations to lash out without thinking.
