History

Michael Bonaccord was a very determined man: he had notions of becoming the best Auror in the history of the Department, even from his early days as a trainee. He was entirely focused on work, on being great, not letting distractions come in his way. Or, at least, that was the plan. He'd finished training and was an up-and-coming young star in the Auror department when he saw Rose Jones in the Ministry cafeteria. She was an intern in Experimental Charms, and he was just absolutely taken with the young woman from the instant he saw her. Having not had much of a social life since finishing Hogwarts nearly five years previous, he wasn't sure how to approach the young woman who ate alone with a thick book propped open in front of her. In fact, it took him a month to work up the courage (something unbelievable for a former Gryffindor and an Auror!) to walk up to Rose and introduce himself. He was hardly suave or a smooth-talker in any sense of the words, but somehow he managed to charm her. Even with the war boiling around them, even with Michael facing death every day simply due to his job, they started up a tentative relationship. When the war ended less than a year later, when The Boy Who Lived defeated You-Know-Who, Michael did something he hadn't expected to do … at least not so soon: in the midst of celebrating with Rose, he dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him. And Rose accepted.

They had a bit of a long engagement (just over two years) before they finally married on Valentine's Day, 14 February 1984. The world, after all, was no longer in the midst of war, and while Michael was busy ferreting out any remaining supporters of the Dark Lord, they had the luxury of enjoying their engagement (and of allowing Rose to plan the extravagant wedding that she had always dreamed of) without constantly worrying that they might be dead before tomorrow. Likewise, they were content to enjoy life as a young married couple, not feeling any particular rush to add to their family. That, of course, does not mean that they weren't absolutely thrilled when, near the beginning of 1989, Rose discovered that she was pregnant. Their daughter, Annie Lynn, was born on 23 September, and in her parents' eyes, she was perfect: tiny and pink, with ten fingers, ten toes, and already a headful of brown hair. She was a surprisingly even-tempered baby, content to lie around and watch what was going on around her, or crawl after the toys that her parents dangled just out of her reach. Although they tried, Michael and Rose couldn't seem to have a second child, so they just showered all of their love onto their daughter. Add to that the fact that she had a cousin who was only a few months younger, whom Annie became best friends with as soon as they were old enough to play together and understand it, and Annie had a very happy early childhood. Unfortunately, that happy childhood was cut tragically short on 1 August, 1997: the day the Ministry fell. Annie was just shy of 8 years old, hardly really understanding all that was going on in the world with the war, just that it was the reason that her father was always leaving in the middle of the night and why he told Annie and her mother every time he left the room that he loved them both. Michael Bonaccord was a good man, and he opposed everything there was about the Death Eaters. So when the Ministry fell on 1 August, 1997 … Michael Bonaccord fell with it. Annie clung to her cousin Lena as she struggled to come to terms with the fact that her father had died, which served only to foster in her a deep and burning hatred of Death Eaters.

The Bonaccords managed to survive the rest of the war without any more loss, though Annie hated it every day when her mother had to go to work in the Ministry, afraid that her mother would go to work one day and not come home, like her daddy had. She really relied on her cousin throughout that year, to keep her from just going crazy from the worry over her mother. The war was almost more than the poor little eight-year-old could handle, and she was happy to celebrate with the rest of the wizarding world when You-Know-Who was vanquished (supposedly for good this time!) again on 2 May, 1998. Rose had managed to keep her job in Experimental Charms throughout the war, and she was able to hold onto it still as the war ended and the Ministry returned to proper, non-Death-Eater control. With the war over, Rose and Annie sought ways to return life to normal without Michael around. Rose strove as well as she could to provide as happy and comfortable and safe of a home for Annie as she could, getting help from her in-laws and parents whenever she needed.

Annie was happy for the distraction of Hogwarts when it came up in 2001. She boarded the train with Lena, and they talked the whole ride (between themselves and with other first years who joined them in the compartment). Of the two, Annie was the first two be sorted, and though she had sort of held out a hope for Gryffindor, her father's former house, she was sorted into Hufflepuff. Of course, with that being her mother's former house, she didn't mind it, but she couldn't help but wonder if maybe the Hat didn't think she was brave like her father. As she sat at the Hufflepuff table and watched the sorting continue, she kept her fingers crossed as she sat on her hands, hoping that Lena would at least be sorted into Hufflepuff with her, but she was dealt her second disappointment of the night when Lena was sorted into Ravenclaw, instead. But Annie was a friendly girl, and she made friends with her roommates quickly, and tried to spend as much time as she could with Lena anyway.

Annie's early school years passed fairly uneventfully. She added both Muggle Studies and Care of Magical Creatures to her course load for third year, and although she might not have necessarily been the most studious student in the school, she did work hard for her grades. As she finished fourth year, she was already looking forward to fifth year (career counseling, O.W.L.s, and possibly even prefecture … she had her fingers crossed for that). What she certainly didn't expect was for her life to once again be flipped upside down that summer. Rose had maintained her career in Experimental Charms, rising through the ranks over the years. It was shortly after Annie returned home from her fourth year that Rose was involved in an accident at work. The charm they were working on backfired, and Rose was killed.

Annie doesn't know what she would have done without Lena. The Gudgeons took her in, and Lena was there for Annie through it all, further cementing their Best Friendship. For a while, Annie hated the Ministry for taking both of her parents from her. And then she went to career counseling in the middle of her fifth year. She had been sort of looking through the brochures that were scattered around the common room, but nothing had really struck her yet. Until, that is, she sat in Professor Sprout's office and stared at the Auror brochure that her Head of House had handed to her. At first, Annie thought it was some terrible joke. Her father had died because he was an Auror! But then she got to thinking about it. She had all the course-related qualifications already, all she had to do was maintain her marks in the classes. She was brave, loyal, a hard-worker. And when she was little, she had always looked up to her father. He was a hero. She thought very seriously about it, and decided that this was what she wanted to do: she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps. She wanted to become a great Auror, to not back down from danger. To help people. Many of her friends were shocked at her sudden declaration that she would be aiming for the Auror Programme, because they knew her history, they knew how her parents had died. Everyone would have thought that Annie would want to work anywhere but in the Ministry.

She had become Prefect in her fifth year, as she had hoped. She'd burst into tears when her aunt told her that her parents would be absolutely filled with pride for her, and she had become determined to prove that she was worthy of the badge. Her last three years at Hogwarts passed in what seemed like a blur: striving to be a good, honest, and fair prefect, then also striving to excel in the required classes for the Auror Programme: Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Potions, Transfiguration, and Muggle Studies. She dropped all classes except those five after her O.W.L.s (on which she had earned high marks), and focused intently on those and her Prefect duties into her sixth and seventh years. She earned high marks on her N.E.W.T.s, as well, and was accepted into the Auror training programme in 2008, fresh out of Hogwarts. Lena had been accepted into the Hit Wizard training programme, and the two of them got a flat together in London. Not that Annie didn't appreciate everything that her aunt and uncle did for her, because she did; she just wanted to relish in freedom with her cousin. They were adults now!

Training was a lot more than Annie expected, but she threw her Hufflepuffian hard-workingness at it just as she had her studies, striving to excel. She felt that she needed to prove herself, to prove that she belonged in the programme, that she wasn't simply doing it out of some kind of homage to her father or anything of the like. She was in the Auror programme because she wanted to be, and she belonged there. She quickly discovered that her natural talent at Charms (something that she says she inherited from her mother, and Rose's death did little to dampen Annie's ability) was quite useful when it came to Concealment & Disguise, as was a quirk that she had started developing as a child: her ability to mimick any accent that she heard. She quickly proved to excel in disguising herself, changing her apperance and affecting a new accent and even new mannerisms. As she approaches the end of her training, she looks forward greatly to becoming a sworn Auror, ready to fight and defend.

Personality

Annie is one of the sweetest people in the entire world. She genuinely cares about other people, and she doesn't hesitate about putting your needs ahead of her own. That doesn't necessarily make her a doormat, though: she's got a nice hard layer of toughness beneath the sweet and soft exterior, and she won't let you use her for your own gains. But if you legitimately need help, she'll be the first one there to help you. Anything in training that she does well at, she'll always be offering to help those who might struggle at it. Some mornings, she might come into training with coffee for the other Auror trainees and the others in her brigade. She likes being helpful and doing nice things for other people.

Annie is also very determined and very much a hard worker. If she sets her mind to something, then she'll do it. No ifs, ands, or buts, she'll do it or die trying. When she sets her mind to something, she's like a dog with a bone. All cliches aside, she does her best to do whatever she sets her mind to: be it befriending someone, doing well in classes, excelling at training, anything and everything, if she decides she'll do it, she'll work her butt off to do it well. Sometimes she ends up wearing herself out with her constant hard work, but she believes the result is worth the temporary discomfort of the means to the end.

And, of course, Annie wouldn't be a Hufflepuff if she wasn't filled to overflowing with loyalty. Loyalty to her family and friends, to her Brigade, to her bosses. If you are her friend, you are a friend for life. She'll forgive nearly any sin (except becoming a Dark Wizard), and she even manages to stay friends with ex-boyfriends after they've broken up. She would do anything for her friends and family, especially Lena. If her loyalties between friends, family, and brigade ever came into conflict, Annie doesn't know for sure what she would do, which loyalty would win out over the others. She can't really imagine a situation where this would happen, but she knows that she should be prepared for anything. If it ever does happen that she has a conflict in loyalties, she'll just have to see then what will happen.
