History

Sam Farmer and Maria Santini grew up together in Pine Hills, Albany. They went to school together, they hung out at each others' family business, and they started dating in high school. Both went to SUNY-Albany, where Sam got a B.S. in Business Administration and Maria got a B.A. in English (with a minor in Journalism). After graduation, they got engaged, then they got married the following spring. Son Winston was born just under a year later. Maria had been a fan of the Sweet Valley High books in recent years and convinced her husband to name their son after her favorite character: Winston Egbert, the loveably nerdy class clown.

Winston grew up with a love of science and tinkering around with things. It probably comes mostly from having hung around his uncle Richard and his electronics repair shop as he was growing up. Winston was taking apart random electronics around the house since he was six. He also loved watching Jeopardy! on TV a lot growing up, so that cultivated a love of trivial knowledge in him. With his father's family owning a grocery store, his mother's family owning an Italian restaurant, and his uncle owning a repair shop, Winston pretty much spent his entire childhood in the back of one family business or the other, either doing his homework in the office or helping out if needed or just sitting around watching his family work.

When he was ten, his cousin Erin (on his mom's side of the family) was born, and Winston was shifted into the duty of helping to take care of her while the rest of the family was working. As a result, despite the ten-year age difference, Winston and Erin are remarkably close as cousins. They often spend the evenings together, either at one of their houses or one of the family businesses, while everyone else is working.

Ultimately, Winston fully expects to inherit the grocery store from his parents, and he's fine with that. So long as his parents hang around to help run it (as his grandparents have been doing ever since Winston's father inherited it), he can run the family store and work on his various scientific and computer-related projects on the side. Things like building robots to use to take over the world.
