History

The second-born child of Alexander and Elizabeth Travers, Natalie lived something of a charmed life. She was the perfect daughter in a wealthy, high-class pureblood family, smiling and nodding and not speaking out of turn. Indeed, it seemed as though her life was perfect, and indeed it was. She had an elder brother to follow around and listen to, countless nannies and nurses to take care of her, and parents who provided anything she needed. From a young age, Natalie's time has been wrapped up in lessons with the intent to turn her into an ideal young lady and (eventually) an ideal wife. Riding and piano lessons occupied most of her time, as well as private tutelage in reading and writing. She learned to embroider (but never more than would be considered ladylike), as well, but her primary lessons were not directly taught but rather inferred by her family: that she must listen and not speak, that she must do and believe what she is told because she is not expected to know better than her elders. As such, she grew up to become a young woman with very little original thought, a bred follower, never a leader.

As Nathaniel, her older brother, had always been around when Natalie was growing up, she was unprepared for his departure to Hogwarts when Natalie was but eight years old, not quite nine yet. That first day without him, she had a nervous breakdown, showing the first hints of instability by shattering a vase of flowers in her room. After this incident, which was kept quiet and never spoken of, her lessons were increased so as to keep her constantly busy — from the moment she awoke in the morning to the moment she retired to bed at night — and distract her from her brother's absence. The first winter holiday that Nathaniel returned from Hogwarts, Natalie latched upon him, refusing to let him out of her sight for longer than a minute or two for the entire holiday.

The year that Natalie was eleven, she looked forward to her start at Hogwarts, feeling absolutely positive that she would be sorted into Slytherin with her brother. Everyone had said that she would be, after all, so there was no doubt in her mind that she would be able to be near her brother at all times from this point onward. Instead, to her horror, the Sorting Hat placed her in Hufflepuff. As she had been raised to never argue with authority but to accept what she was told, she did not fight this, though she teetered near the edge of another nervous breakdown when told that she would hardly have any time to spend with her brother. However, despite the different houses and years (he was a fourth year to her first year), they did manage to spend as much time together as possible. Natalie's years at Hogwarts have found her associating more with the Slytherin house than her own, indeed she often dines at the Slytherin table during mealtimes except when forced to sit at her own.
