History

Sophie is the younger child of Timothy and Gretchen Davis. Even as an infant, she seemed calmer, quieter, and happier than most. She would often be in her crib giggling, even if there was nothing there. As a young child, she had several imaginary friends, who she would insist needed chairs at the table, and she would shriek if someone was about to sit or step on one of them. Her family chalked it up to her having an overactive imagination. They had a harder time sticking with that when she was 8 and freaking out because the neighbor kids were playing soccer with a hedgehog, and she wouldn't believe anyone who told her that it was just a normal soccer ball. She was 17 before she was finally diagnosed with schizophrenia in late 2015. The next year and a half she was in and out of several different hospitals and asylums, prescribed all sorts of different drugs, seen by multiple different psychiatrists. Her parents were nearly at their wits' end (and their budget growing ever tighter) when they were approached by someone from Underland Asylum. The promise that they could do more to "fix" Sophie than the others was enough for Timothy and Gretchen, so Sophie was sent there immediately. So far, she's been at Underland longer than anywhere else.

Personality

Sophie was never an outgoing or popular girl. She was the girl who put too much effort into her homework, constantly vying for the highest grade. Instead of socializing with others, she would sit and read, often books well above her grade level. Socially awkward, she has a hard time with small talk and will sometimes bring up a random fact just to fill the silence. The longer she has been treated for her condition, the less she trusts anything she sees anymore. Sometimes she doesn't even believe that the other patients or the staff on the ward are real.

Appearance

Although roughly average height for a girl, Sophie still seems small, often shrinking in on herself. She sometimes forgets to eat, so she's relatively skinny, too. Her blue eyes sometimes look too big for her face, and her smiles never quite reach them. Even before she was institutionalized, she never had much interest in doing much with her hair or using makeup. Most mornings she remembers to brush her hair, at least. She chews her fingernails and picks at her cuticles, so her nails always look unkempt.

Mental Status Exam

"The patient suffers from frequent visual hallucinations. She has been observed visually tracking objects that are not actually there. She also insists that she's able to make objects come to life, but cannot provide any proof."

Is it real, or is it just another one of her hallucinations? Sophie can't tell anymore. But she would swear to you that objects around her do come to life, they just stop whenever any of the asylum staff (or her parents, when she was still at home) comes in. The more objects around her that come to life, the more her head starts to hurt. She's gotten nosebleeds a couple of times.
