History

Alexander Jewkes grew up in a Ministry family. Both of his parents held jobs at the Ministry, they followed the Ministry blindly, and never questioned anything that the Ministry did or said. Alex had a feeling he would end up following them into the Ministry as well, and even a child, started to plan for a future much like his parents'. When Alex went off to school and was sorted into Gryffindor, he saw there was more than a life like his parents. He found he had an interest in quidditch. Not in playing it, he was pants on a broom, but in the science of it. Learning stats, and keeping track of goals, plays. He could recite pro stats at will, and had each pro player's signature play memorised.

Alexander's easy going ways, and friendly attitude made school simple and easy. He did well in the class he liked, and dropped the ones he did not. He made friends easily, and tended to just go with the flow, not allowing himself to get upset. During an Herbology lesson, the friend who Alex normally worked with was sick up in the hospital wing. He joined Charlotte Poke at her table, and they struck up a conversation. He had always liked Charlotte enough, but never really talked to her at length. After an hour of working over a puffpod, he started to see her as more than just a classmate. They started working together regularly, and by the end of their sixth year, they had become good friends.

Charlotte Poke grew up in a busy, chaotic sort of household. Both of her parents worked, not together, and there was a constant conflict of schedules. Charlotte, like her husband, learned to go with the flow, and just take things as they came. She went off to Hogwarts, sorted into Hufflepuff, and was excited to start her courses. Charlotte liked school, she did well in everyone of her courses. She liked the comfortable routine of school, classes, homework, studying. She was good at keeping things compartmentalized, school, this needed to be done at this time. She had a study schedule, and would stick to it, no matter what distractions came her way.

Charlotte always had a boyfriend, from fourth year on. As soon as she would break up with one, one would come right along. It was an odd occurrence during her sixth year when she was single. Boys asked her out, and she kept saying no, she didn't know why she would. She just wanted time to herself. She knew she was starting to fancy Alex, but wanted to wait to see what came out of their friendship. By the beginning of their seventh year, she was ready for Alex to ask her out on a date. It took until the Halloween Hogsmeade trip for him finally to notice the hints she was dropping, but he did. And they had an easy first date. They were all ready friends, so they had plenty to talk about. She liked how everything to fall in place with Alex, and by the end of their seventh year, they were dating seriously and wondering what the next step would be.

Charlotte and Alex found a little flat in London together while they worked on their respective careers. Alex found an entry level position at the WWN in their sports news department. Charlotte at the Ministry, in their education department as a junior assistant. They dated for two more years before decided maybe it was time to get engaged. It wasn't a surprise when Alex proposed and Charlotte tearfully accepted. They had a nice little wedding with their family and friends and took a little holiday to Brighton to celebrate. They came back to work and started to save up for a starter home. Charlotte and Alex waited two more years to start trying for children, and Charlotte got pregnant right away. Jillian Catherine was born on May 2nd, 1982. She was joined by a sister, Juliet Angelica, exactly one year and one month later on June 2nd, 1982, then the girls were shortly followed by a brother, Spencer.

With an older sister like Jillian, and a younger brother also commanding attention, Juliet knew that she needed to do something to stand out in the family. She learned how to be nearly as talkative and loud as her older sister was: if Jillian wasn't talking, Juliet was trying to get a word in edgewise. Which, naturally, seemed to lead to fights between the girls. Eventually, Juliet settled into being the voice of reason of the two girls. She still fought to get a word in edgewise around her sister, but as she grew older, Juliet began appreciating being the one who sat back and quietly observed, and tended to speak up only when necessary.

Where Jillian was adventurous, Juliet was more reserved. She enjoyed adventuring nearly as much as her sister, but she was a little scared of getting too far away from their parents (not that she would have said anything about it!), but she secretly loved the adventure games that Jillian made up. And while Jillian took lessons in dance and played football, Juliet preferred to learn horseback riding and the piano.

When Jillian went off to Hogwarts, Juliet was a little jealous. Even though she'd be joining Jillian in just a year, she still wanted to go now. Also, she discovered that she missed her sister while Jillian was gone. While Jillian was shopping for all her school things, Juliet wanted them, too, but their mother convinced her to wait patiently for her turn. It was hard, but Juliet hung back while Jillian shopped, eyeing things in the stores and biding her time. The thing she was most jealous of was Jillian's kitten. She loved animals, and she wanted a pet all her own.

Finally, finally, Juliet's Hogwart's letter came. It was her turn to shine. She got to go shopping for school supplies on Diagon, and she even got her own kitten: a little siamese kitten she named Ophelia. She was thrilled to finally be joining her sister at school, though she knew that her second year would be the best, because all three of the Jewkes siblings would be at school together. That first night at Hogwarts, Juliet was nervous as she watched her fellow first years be sorted ahead of her. Where would she be placed? She desperately hoped for Hufflepuff, to be with Jillian. As the hat was placed upon her head, it only rested there for a few moments before shouting out what she was hoping to hear: Hufflepuff! She happily returned the hat and joined her sister at the yellow and black table. Now, if Spencer would just join them in Hufflepuff next year, everything would be perfect!

But, of course, everything wasn't perfect. Juliet had been looking forward to watching quidditch (she wouldn't try out for the team, but she wanted to watch the games and cheer for Hufflepuff), but they were told right there that first night that quidditch would not happen. Though the replacement sounded just as exciting: the Triwizard Tournament! She was glad that both she and Jillian were far too young to enter, and she was even worried that Jillian might try to find a way around the age line to enter, because that sounded like her sister's type of adventure. But someone from their own house was chosen as Champion, so that was exciting! Juliet cheered for Cedric Diggory, though she didn't wear any of the mean charmed badges, just the regular ones for supporting Cedric. It was an absolute shock to her that Cedric died at the end of the last task. That kind of thing shouldn't happen at school! Juliet spent most of the summer in tears, almost not wanting to go back to school.

She did go back to school, and was mildly disappointed when Spencer was sorted into Ravenclaw. She'd really wanted all three of them to be in Hufflepuff together. In her second year, they had a new Defence teacher, Dolores Umbridge. She had rules about everything, and after Juliet saw what happened to Jillian's hand after being in detention with their new teacher, Juliet was simultaneously filled with rage at the teacher, and also abject fear. She didn't want scars all over her hands. The best thing to do would be to follow the rules to the letter and just silently stew over the horrible things that Professor Umbridge did. And she just wished even more that Spencer could have been in Hufflepuff with them, where they could have protected him from … everything. And, of course, Juliet spent the entire year confused. Headmaster Dumbledore, a few of the other professors, and quite a few of the students were saying that You-Know-Who was back and had killed Cedric Diggory last year. But Professor Umbridge, the Ministry, and a lot of the other students were saying that this was all a lie. Professor Umbridge was mean and horrible, but would the Ministry just lie to them like that? Yes, yes they would. At the end of the year, the Ministry admitted that You-Know-Who was back, which scared Juliet even more, but also taught the twelve-year-old (nearly thirteen!) to think everything through and consider all sides and not just blindly take the word of those in charge as right and correct.

Her third year, Juliet added Care of Magical Creatures and Divination, because they both sounded like such fun classes. And being able to be taught by a Centaur would be the neatest thing in the world. The Care of Magical Creatures teacher, though, scared her. He was so huge and had such a wild beard and hair. She was positive that he could very well stick her quite comfortably in one of the pockets of his very large coat. But because she loved animals, she stuck with the class regardless. Bad things always seemed to be happening, though, and the worst of all happened at the end of that school year: the Headmaster died! This time, even though the shock was greater, Juliet did not cry the whole summer through as she had when Cedric Diggory died. She was upset, but she was learning to keep it inside. She was, however, afraid of what would happen the coming year. She was almost ready to ask to be tutored at home when they found out that the children had to return to Hogwarts for the next school year.

Once again, Juliet found herself surrounded by rules. Strict rules. Fearing that the punishment for rule-breaking would be much worse than just whatever happened to Jillian in Juliet's second year, Juliet checked and double-checked her things, to ensure that she was not breaking a single rule. Anything she thought might be questionable was either left at home, or sent home as soon as she possibly could. She would follow the rules and keep quiet, at least publicly. Even if she didn't agree with the rules or anything else happening, only her sister and those she absolutely knew she could trust would hear of her disagreement. She's not stupid, though. She knows why Emma and Mortimor and a bunch of other students didn't return to school this year, and she's worried for all of them. But in her mind, the best thing to do is to keep your head down and maintain a low profile, even if it means pretending that you don't mind the rules and are okay with everything going on. Fighting back is for people who are older and more experienced, who know what they're doing.
