Dorian was born the oldest of three children to proud, bibliophile parents Jack and Lauren Miller. All of their children were named after literary characters: Dorian (The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde), Elizabeth (Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen), and Alice (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll). Dorian grew up as a rather typical older brother: very protective of his younger sisters.

When Dorian was seven, he witnessed the gigantic meteor shower on February 17, 1986, but was thankfully left uninjured. However, his sister Elizabeth, who was almost five at the time, was mildly injured at the time, suffering a few scratches and cuts from the meteor rocks. It wasn't until Elizabeth was fourteen that she began displaying her power: she got Dorian in trouble when, after running into him, she asked him why he'd skipped school the previous day. Elizabeth was found to have the power of postcognition, the ability to see past events of a person whenever they come into physical contact with said person.

Dorian was also the only "normal" child in the family. Although Elizabeth seemed normal until her teenage years, Alice, who was born when Dorian was eight, never even had the chance to seem normal: she was diagnosed as profoundly deaf at the age of ten months. The whole family learned sign language in order to communicate with Alice, and it was through watching his baby sister's struggle — in addition to the rest of the family's struggle to deal with this — that lead Dorian to pursue a career in Audiology.

In his freshman year at Oppidan High School, he met Benjamin Richards who, like him, had been sitting around the lunch room alone, so one day Dorian went over and asked if he could join him. They were lunch buddies for a while, though they talked a lot and figured out that they had a lot in common, and eventually became best friends. Dorian doesn't know that Ben is a Super, though he occasionally has his suspicions that his best friend might be hiding a power or two. Due, however, to the Miller family secret of Elizabeth's powers, he understands that sometimes you would want to keep things like that a secret. So Dorian doesn't mind that Ben might be keeping such a secret from him, though he does think it would be pretty awesome to have a Superhero best friend.

After graduating from high school, he went straight to college, where he majored in Audiology. He then pursued a master's degree in Audiology, managing to earn it in only three semesters. Dorian gained national certification (both through the American Board of Audiology, as well as a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology through ASHA — the American Speech and Hearing Association) after completing his externship, after which he went straight to work at Oppidan Hospital. At the present time, he is working his way toward an Au.D.

He is still very close to his family, particularly both of his younger sisters. Nobody outside of the family (not even his best friend) knows about Elizabeth's powers — she is very careful to hide them, although she does tend to shy away from physical contact — and Dorian is very proud of the smart young women both Elizabeth and Alice have grown into; Alice in particular, because he'd always helped her so that her disability would not cause her to lag behind her classmates.
